Project Overview
Developed a Facebook Promotional app to give away tickets to ‘Splendour in the Grass’ music festival. People were asked to submit 25 words or less and pick 3 friend to take with them. Submissions were up for public vote and we developed a custom facebook application with Tiger Pistol.
My Role
- Oversaw process from scoping through design, development and testing.
- Managed all communications with third party supplier Tiger Pistol.
- Helped develop moderation guidelines for moderators.
- Worked closely with Head of Social to ensure all company guidelines were adhered.
Learnings/ Challenges
- Learnt about the complexity of running promos through Facebook; the limitations around user data and the permission and notification processes.
- Importance of having a clear set of moderation guidelines when a group of people are moderating and having a social response plan set up to cover multiple scenarios.
- The importance of clear communication when working with suppliers; you can’t make any assumptions you need to understand how every piece of functionality will work.
- Having the ability to scale during the moderation process to avoid bottlenecks with pending entries.
- Working with an alcohol brand meant alot more rules around age restrictions and user generated content that presented several challenges to the entry mechanic and process.
- Limitations of browser compatibility in Facebook, i.e. Facebook does not support some older browsers.
- How to manage bugs through Facebook and effectively communicate to users and resolve issues.
- Development of a separate mobile site to allow mobile traffic to enter the promo.
